It gets better ...

Barbara Bush (former first lady) had some things to say about the victims of Katrina. Don't believe me, though, here is the link to Snopes.com, so you all can check it out with the experts. Who is Snopes.com? Well, Snopes.com is the authority for clarification urban legends, Internet rumors, chain emails, spurious stories, etc.

How anyone could possibly believe that 1) losing your home and all your possessions, 2) having many of your friends and family drown or die from neglect, 3) and then being forcibly detained (read the news and find out) is somehow, even in your wildest imagination, "better"?

Not me, anyway. It brings me to tears.

It brings me to tears

This blog is not about current events. Normally. The situation in the Gulf region, though, is anguishing me greatly. I just read a post on Boing Boing, though, that I have to comment on. Here is an excerpt, concerning a "refugee camp" in Oklahoma:

"The occupants of the camp cannot leave the camp for any reason. If they leave the camp they may never return."

Read the article. Believe it, or don't believe it. If it's true, then the ACLU needs to be on this. This is America. Personal freedoms (should) apply to everyone, even the poor displaced by Katrina. If you are putting people in a place where they don't want to be, then there's no doubt they will want to leave. In my humble opinion, that should be your first clue that you're doing something wrong. Let the people stay as long as they need to stay. If they leave or want to leave, let them.
